Friday, August 15 Lego Challenge!

Don't forget to bring Summer Reading Notes on Monday (West only)! Also, please take the True Colors Personality Test over the weekend (in Google Drive folder).

Lego Replication –  A measure of communication and collaboration!

The Challenge: Your team will be split into two parts: Creators and Replicators. The Creators will have 5-7 minutes to build an original creation while the Replicators are doing another activity on the far side of the courtyard. Important: Creators, you must not let any Replicators see you creation. Your goal is to have the Replicators build the exact structure without actually seeing it. Your line of communication will be one phone call between the Creators and Replicators.

The Grade:  Your task will be graded based on three things.
  • Creativity - The structure will receive a score between 1-3 based on how creative the original structure appears.
  • Replication - The replicated structure will receive a score between 1-5 based on how exactly it matches the original.
  • Your teams will be racing another. The team that finishes first will receive 2 points. The losing team will receive only one.
  • Don't Cheat! If at any time you take a picture of your structure, then your team will all receive a D on this first Homework grade. If any builder (those who touch Legos) speaks, then your team will lose one point per outburst. They must remain SILENT!
Roles: Each team will have several roles to fill.
  • Creator Builders (2-3 people who build the original structure ....They are mute)
  • Creator Communicators (1-2 people who will talk on a cell phone to the Replicators)
  • Creator Cop (1 person who is assigned to watch the other team for cheating)
  • Replicator Builders (2-3 people who actually build the new structure....They are mute)
  • Replicator Communicators (1-2 people who will talk on a cell phone to the Creators and direct the Builders)
  • Replicator Cop (1 person who is assigned to watch the other team for cheating)
  • The Watchmen (These people are great at analyzing social interactions. They are mute and invisible watchers who take small notes about their observations of communications, social interactions, misunderstandings, frustrations, victories, reactions, etc...)
HW: Bring Summer Reading Notes and Take the True Colors Personality Test (found our Google Drive Folder).
