- Does the Hook get your attention? Rate it from 1-5 (weakest to best)
- Is the thesis in parallel structure?
- Do the topic sentences match the topics and order of the reasons in the thesis?
- Does each quote get properly introduced with who is speaking/what is happening?
- Does each paragraph make sense and support the thesis?
- Does the person prove his/her thesis by the end?
Check a second person's essay by reading it backwards. Did you see any....
- Fragments or Run-on Sentences?
- Passive Voice Sentences?
- Past tense verbs (when speaking of events in the novel it should be present tense)?
